Review | A Half-Baked Murder by Emily George

This isn’t exactly a romance-focused book like what I usually go for, and yet the main character, Chloe, more than made up for it with her love for food, her grandmother, and her hometown. It’s easy to root for her and her small business idea that takes a turn after the guy who’s been harassing her for a date winds up dead 😳.

It took me a couple of days to get into this book, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed Chloe’s backstory as a chef in Paris with a broken engagement, her aunt who does dog-dancing shows, and her best friend who runs a bed-and-breakfast and offers her good advice in spades.

Following Chloe in her search for clues around her hometown in beachy California had me on the edge of my seat as she scoped out houses, attended shows, and gossiped around with the locals. I definitely had no clue about who did it until the very end, and all the plot twists in the book added to the thrill of the mystery.

Emily George is an incredible author who doesn’t skimp on the details when it comes to describing treats like special caramel brownies and spicy-infused chai so delectable I feel like I could lick the book and taste it. Lucky for my pages, my copy of the book came with recipes in the back. All this to say, I thoroughly enjoyed her delicious writing of both food and mystery.

Five out of five stars!
