To be completely honest, I saw one of those aesthetic Instagram Reels with a quote from this book and immediately decided to get a Kindle Unlimited subscription just to read it. The reel was that good. Though the book didn’t necessarily live up to my expectations, I still enjoyed it.
The book itself certainly scratched the itch seeing the reel inspired and while the writing wasn’t the most polished, I had a lot of fun reading this book in just a few hours over the course of an evening. It’s been so long since I’ve had so much fun reading a book.
That’s not to say there weren’t some major issues with the plot and the pacing of the book, not to mention some of the predictable plot points, unfinished storylines, and underdeveloped characters. This book reads like a Wattpad novel and while that’s not for everyone, it definitely inspired feelings of nostalgia as I was devouring it.
Overall, it was easy to fall in love with Nina and Roman and lose myself in their world of mafia rivalries, jealousy, and marriages of convenience. This book has all my favourite tropes including a protective male main character, plenty of angst, and a “where’s my wife” moment (hehehe).
Four out of five stars!
