After loving her recent release Love Theoretically, I was super excited to delve into her STEMinist Novellas for bite-sized romance stories. These novellas have been great for getting me out of reading slumps over the course of this year because they’re small enough that they don’t feel overwhelming to read but still so well written with plots that I would say are even more exciting than her longer stories.
Under One Roof (#1)
Out of all of Ali Hazelwood’s leading ladies, I think Mara is one of my favourite (maybe only tied with Bee because she works at NASA). Working at the EPA, my heart went out to her as she tried to do her late mentor proud through environmental justice.
The hilarious banter and undeniable attraction between Liam and Mara despite being on diametrically opposed tracks in their careers made this story complex and thrilling to read. Would always recommend this book to romance fans who love an ‘and they were roommates’ moment.
Stuck With You (#2)
I am not normally a huge fan of fractured timelines, but Ali Hazelwood made it work switching between Sadie stuck in an elevator with Erik and their first meeting three weeks prior.
This was probably my favourite novel out of all three of them, I loved the hint of corporate espionage, the way that Erik fell first and harder, and the delicious misunderstanding that drove the plot. If you’re a fan of forced proximity and handsome blonds, this is a must-read.
Below Zero (#3)
Remember two paragraphs ago when I said I’m not a huge fan of fractured timelines? This is exactly what I was talking about. The first half of this book was really difficult to follow switching between Hannah and Ian’s first meeting in California, her first day at NASA in Houston, and her mission in Norway.
Ian and Hannah’s undeniable attraction saved the book with their magnetic connection and mutual love for Mars. I did struggle to get through this novella— it took me the longest to read out of all of them— but the ending was fairly rewarding and definitely brought a smile to my face.
