Celine Bangura is everything I want to be, organised, meticulous, and highly intelligent. I envy how confident she is, her idgaf attitude, and her loyalty to her friends. She knows what she wants and is determined to get it no matter what and at any cost. As a Capricorn myself, I can only hope to be half as bad-ass as her.
From the first page, Celine takes control of the narrative with a strong voice and dry, sarcastic humour. She cares deeply about her sister and mother with a fierce protectiveness. I could relate to how stubborn she was, especially in her grudge against her ex-best friend Bradley.
When it comes to her goals, Celine approaches them with determination and confidence in a way that had me in awe. I loved reading about her foray into the woods in a wilderness survival competition against Bradley and other students. It was a new and refreshing take on academic rivals that I thoroughly enjoyed.
What I loved most about this story is the chemistry between Bradley and Celine, Even though they hate each other, Celine can’t help but notice how frustratingly cute Bradley is and even though they are frenemies, Bradley’s desire to help Celine and see her succeed sometimes overpowers his annoyance with how headstrong and stubborn she is. They’re almost drawn together like magnets and I thought it was adorable.
Five out of five stars!
