Life Update: I lost my job!

May has been a crazy month for sure. I was in Toronto for two weeks celebrating my cousin’s wedding and then I caught a cold on the flight home so I was sick in bed for another week. Now, with June on the horizon, I’m trying to reorganise my life and get on for the summertime.

On the first day of my vacation, I got a call informing me that at the end of the month, my entire team is being let go. I was a little sad, this is my first job in my chosen career and I was really excited about finally getting started. This feels like a huge setback.

But it’s also a major opportunity. For the first time in my life, I will have an entire summer where I have absolutely no work obligations and so I am going to challenge myself to do three bookish-related things.

ONE. Bookshelf cleanout

Since I have no income, I am going to go on a mini book-buying ban and challenge myself to read everything on my bookshelf that I haven’t yet; that is 77 books in total. Anything I have no desire to read will get donated to make room for new books.

    TWO. Bookstagram content creation

With my ample free time, I am also going to focus a lot more on Bookstagram content creation. I have so many ideas for exciting and engaging content that I have had to put on the back burner to work overtime. I can’t wait to be able to create content and share it with the awesome community.

    THREE. Finishing my manuscript

This third challenge is probably the most important one to me. I started writing a book in November of last year for NaNoWriMo and only got halfway through. After the challenge, I struggled to get back into the grind of writing every day, but I think it will be much easier to get into a routine once I don’t have to work around my crazy work schedule.

I can’t wait to see what this summer brings!
