Review | Night Shift by Annie Crown

This book is the first one this year that I found so difficult to put down I actually stayed up until five in the morning reading it and finished it in one day. There is something so captivating about Annie Crown’s writing and I was immersed in Kennedy’s life and how similar it was to mine as a reader. My favourite thing about this book is the uniquely meta way in which Kennedy thinks in terms of the romance books she loves and picks apart her life based upon cliche plot twists and tropes.

Vincent’s patience was my favourite trait about him as the male lead. I love that he repeatedly put himself out there and tried to make it work with her, even though miscommunication between the two of them made it difficult sometimes. Vincent’s earnestness just made me fall in love with him and root for him and Kennedy to be together.

Night Shift perfectly captures the atmosphere of a college campus with the dynamics between roommates, the setting of the library, and the Basketball team parties that get a little out of hand. The youth and whimsy in the characters is undeniable and makes them so much fun to read.

This book was perfect amounts angsty, funny, and spicy. I loved the vulnerability and honesty between the characters and how perfect they were for each other. I definitely will be rereading this fun novel.

Five out of five stars.
