After much anticipation, I finally got around to reading an Elena Armas book for the first time and I was not disappointed. It’s easy to see why her romance reads are beloved on Booktok.
From the first page, I was hooked on Adalyn’s story. I loved her badass, take no shits personality and how she took control of her situation. I don’t read a lot of small-town romance, but I loved seeing how big-city girl Adalyn took her small town and Cameron by storm.
My only qualm with this book is the amount of story that the reader misses out on in between chapters. There were so many times that a chapter ended on a cliffhanger, and I was super excited to continue the scene, and then the next chapter started later in time, leaving the reader out of the continuation of the scene. This consistent building of anticipation with no payoff made me feel really disconnected from the story.
Overall, I loved the delicious slow burn and loved how patience is rewarded with the most romantic scenes closer to the end that had my toes curling. Dual POVs are so underrated, and in this book, they’re done so masterfully. I loved getting to look inside the minds of both Cameron and Adalyn and follow their journey getting to know each other through the Six Hills Little League.
Four out of five stars!
