After Throttled left me disappointed, I was nervous to continue Lauren Asher’s Dirty Air series, but I’m so glad I stuck with it because I really enjoyed Sophie’s story in the follow-up.
Similar to the last book, the female main character falls for a forbidden F1 driver but isn’t sure he’s capable of loving her back, thanks to his womanizing ways. While the storyline is repetitive, I thought this book handled the trope in a much more thrilling way, especially with Liam’s bold nature and the added twist of Sophie’s “Fuck It” List. The pacing also had the added benefit of being able to avoid the sports exposition that dragged on in Throttled.
I was totally immersed in this story, there were so many jaw-dropping lines from Liam and swoon-worthy outings he planned for Sophie. The dual POV allowed me to laugh at how clueless Liam was about falling hard for Sophie through hilariously petty one-liners and possessively jealous actions.
Getting to fall in love with Noah and Maya all over again through Liam and Sophie’s perspectives was also a whole lot of kicking and squealing fun, and I appreciated how seamlessly this book weaves in with the storyline of the first one. This book definitely made me adore Noah even more, and Maya and Sophie’s friendship was so heartwarming.
This was also my first time listening to an audiobook, and I really enjoyed it. I only listened to the audiobook for a quarter of the chapters, and while the voice actors for this story weren’t my favourite, it was a fun experience, and I’ll definitely have to try it again.
Five out of five stars.
