Review | Lights Out by Navessa Allen

My coworkers likened Josh in this book to Lego Batman, and that movie is one of my favorites, so I was excited to receive an incredible special edition cover of Lights Out in my PS subscription box a few months ago. My coworkers also recommended listening to the audiobook, which I thoroughly enjoyed— the voice actor for Josh was incredible, and his narration made the book ten times better.

This was my first stalker romance, but I appreciated how respectful Josh was of Aly and her wishes. I adored how he stood up for her in front of her family and had “burn the world down for her” vibes. Josh’s humanity also made him so attractive, and his internal conflict stemming from his fear of becoming his father made for a fascinating subplot. I loved how much he loved Aly and how far he was willing to go to make her feel special and cared for. The world needs more people like Josh… well maybe not exactly like Josh.

I adored Aly’s tenacity and drive so much that I want to be her when I grow up. She was such a force of nature in the emergency room, and I admired how protective she was of her coworkers. I adored her prowess with different forms of martial arts and her ability to get shit done. Her resilience in every situation made the story feel so much more mature, and prevented a pesky misunderstanding-driven third-act breakup.

I am so excited for whatever Navessa Allen writes next, and I can’t wait to hopefully see more of Josh and Aly in future books.

Five out of five stars!
